Setting goals is important to anyone who wants to own their happiness. Sure, if you just leave it to chance you may get lucky, but for the most parts good things don’t come to you if you don’t dream it, plan it and follow through. In our house, my wife and I share our vision boards, mind maps and goals for the year. We found a way to encourage our 4 kids to do the same. It’s a simple tool, and very effective.
Every year they create a 8×11 colorful vision board, and we laminate it so that they can use it as a place mat at the dinner table. This has become tradition for us. As it turns out having that place mat in front of them 3-4 times a day, all year long, really has a positive impact on their desire to accomplish their goals. We end up talking about these goals and dreams on a weekly basis. It really sparks up interesting conversations. They’re 100% responsible for coming up with their goals and creating the art around it.
