This is the central message in this TED Talk called “The power of believing that you can improve.” Carol Dweck researches “growth mindset” — the idea that we can grow our brain’s capacity to learn and to solve problems. In this talk, she describes two ways to think about a problem that’s slightly too hard for you to solve. Are you not smart enough to solve it … or have you just not solved it yet? Yet, is the keyword in this TED Talk. Carol highlights the importance of praising the process. In her research, this approach leads to a growth mindset.
Carol partnered with game scientists from the University of Washington to build a math game that rewards you for efforts and process, instead of the answer. They saw more effort, strategies, engagement and more perseverance.
